About me

I'm Jodie, a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor and am currently in the final stages of completing my diploma in psychotherapy. I trained for 4 years at the Northern Guild in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. My qualifications are both BACP and UKCP accredited. I have worked as therapist in NHS settings and counselling services in North Yorkshire offering both short- and long-term therapy. I have worked with individuals aged 18-90.

I am first and foremost, a human, and amongst other things, a therapist, mother, wife, daughter.  I found my way into therapy through working as a drug & alcohol worker with people not only in active addiction. I'd naively assumed that addiction was the main presentation but the longer I spent with my clients, I realised they'd, more often than not, experienced complex trauma and abuse and I felt woefully underprepared to support people with such complexities. At the same time I was having my first experience of therapy as a client, and the combination of the two spurred me to I embark on my therapeutic training. Prior to working as a therapist, I have had a varied professional career having worked in the charity sector for the majority of it, mostly in the substance misuse sector, children’s hospice care and youth work.
